North Clackamas School Board to vote on 2011-12 budget
June 21st, 2011
The North Clackamas School Board is poised to adopt a budget tonight for the 2011-12 school year which cuts the equivalent of about 130 full-time teaching positions out of roughly 920 positions.
The proposed $132.7 million budget would also reduce about 9 administrative positions and 10 classified positions.
Throughout the year, the board has voted on a number of decisions meant to either cut costs or deal with a reduced workforce. Among them included the controversial closures of two elementary schools and the consolidation of two others, moving sixth-graders to middle school, and capping the number of courses high school students are allowed to take.
The district’s two major unions also recently agreed on furlough days, which would amount to six school days this year. Teachers agreed on an additional four furlough days without student contact. Under a contract also up for a vote tonight, classified employees agreed on one additional furlough day.
Tonight’s meeting will also feature proposals for the future of school buildings that will be closed next year, as well as discussion on a charter that was rejected earlier this school year. You can download the meeting’s full agenda at the district website.
