August 5th, 2010

Grape growers and winemakers from throughout the Western U.S. will attend the Fresno State Grape Day at the university’s viticulture and enology facilities and vineyards to learn the latest research in viticulture, enology and grape microbiology, view demonstrations and tour the award-winning student winery.

The biannual event, presented by the Fresno State Viticulture and Enology Research Center and Department of Viticulture and Enology, is Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Fresno State faculty, staff and students will present their grape and wine research findings in 20 vineyard and equipment presentations, oral and poster presentations and a hands-on activity in the Sensory Evaluation Lab. Winemaster Ken Fugelsang and winery intern Steven DeCosta will provide a tour of the Fresno State Winery facilities.

Students also will present a report on their international learning experience in Switzerland, Italy and France.

The cost to attend Grape Day is $15 and $5 for students with valid identification. The event concludes with a lunch, sponsored by the American Vineyard Magazine. Advance registration is encouraged.
